What is the Imum Coeli (IC) in astrology?

The IC points to home, roots, and the private side of life in an astrology chart.

What it means

The Imum Coeli, often called the IC, is the lowest point in a birth chart. Think of it like the foundation of a house: it stands for what feels private, familiar, and grounding. It can also point to early home life and personal roots.

What it means in astrology

In astrology, the IC is linked to home, family roots, and your inner sense of belonging. Astrologers may read its zodiac sign and nearby planets as clues about what helps you feel settled. It sits opposite the Midheaven, which is linked to public life and goals.

Example

Maria notices that she feels most at ease cooking with her family at home. An astrologer might explore her IC as one symbol of the private routines and roots that matter to her.

Quick tip

Notice which places and routines help you feel at home; use them as a gentle reflection prompt for your IC.
